GIVING TO THE CHILDREN OF OUR COMMUNITY: THE SBW BICYCLE DONATIONS PROGRAM 

 For the past five years, SBW has used the majority of its sponsorship support to purchase 650 new bicycles and helmets for young people in our community who may not otherwise get bicycles. Starting with 38 bicycles donated to Women in Distress in 2002, the program has grown to a high of 232 in 2005. Last year, SBW donated 180 new bicycles and helmets as holiday gifts to children and young adults in six different programs: Children's Home Society, Women in Distress, ChildNet, The Village, Community Enhancement Collaboration, and Covenant House. Bicycles also went to children in foster care.

A new arm of the SBW bicycle donation program that began last year included the donation of seven specialty bicycles, five tandems, and two adult tricycles for people with disabilities.
